上海への出張は直前の予定変更で、急遽延安ホテルを予約しましたYan'an Hotel Shanghai。当初は静安区の中心部で安全な宿を探していただけでしたが、3日間滞在してみて、この老舗ホテルの細部にまで行き届いた一流のサービスにすっかり魅了されました。ここ数年で最も快適な出張体験となりました。
スーツケースを引きずってホテルの入り口に着くと、ドアマンがすぐに迎えに来てくれました。重い会議資料でいっぱいのスーツケースを運んでくれただけでなく、滑り落ちそうになったノートパソコンバッグも支えてくれました。チェックインの際、フロントのスタッフは私が何度かくしゃみをしていることに気づき、私が何も言う前に、笑顔で「風邪を引いたみたいですね。温かいお茶で体が温まりますよ」と声をかけ、温かい生姜茶を勧めてくれました。翌日早朝便に乗る予定だったため、ホテル側は事前に搭乗券を部屋まで届けてくれただけでなく、予定時刻より30分早くモーニングコールを手配してくれました。さらに、朝食用のバッグにはカイロまで入れてくれていました。ホテル滞在2日目、重要な顧客連絡先が書かれたノートをレストランに置き忘れてしまいました。一日中防犯カメラの映像を確認する覚悟でしたが、驚いたことに、レストランの店員さんが20分も経たないうちに、汚れ一つないノートを部屋まで持ってきてくれたのです。彼女はデスクを片付けている時にノートを見つけ、私が心配しているだろうと思い、昼食もろくに取らずに部屋番号を頼りに私の部屋まで探しに来てくれたとのことでした。しかも、重要なページには付箋で印をつけてくれて、すぐに参照できるように配慮してくれていました。
何よりも驚いたのは、ホテルの細やかな気配りでした。前日、レストランで「久しぶりに本格的な上海風魚の煮込みを食べたい」と何気なく口にしたところ、翌日の夕食時に、店員さんが特別にシェフ自らが作った魚の煮込みを少量持ってきてくれました。厨房と相談して、私の好みに合わせて塩分控えめに作ってくれたとのことでした。ある夜、午前1時まで仕事をして、水を買いに階下へ降りると、ロビーマネージャーが常温のミネラルウォーターを無料でくれただけでなく、温めた牛乳の小パックまで渡してくれました。夜更かし中は冷たいものを飲みすぎないようにと、まるで長年の友人のような親しみやすい口調で注意してくれたのです。
ホテルの立地も素晴らしく、窓からは喧騒の中にある静かなオアシスのような広い庭園が見えました。仕事が終わって散歩に出かけると、警備員さんが積極的に声をかけてくれ、夜は涼しくなるので上着を着るようにと注意してくれました。出発前に高齢の親戚へのお土産に地元の特産ケーキを2箱買いたいとお願いしたところ、フロントのスタッフの方がわざわざ数十年の歴史を持つ老舗の菓子店に連絡を取り、丁寧に梱包し、保冷剤まで入れて、輸送中に傷まないように配慮してくれました。
3日間の旅の終わりに、荷物をまとめてロビーを出ようとした時、スタッフ全員が笑顔で見送ってくれました。豪華な内装で注目を集めようとする多くの新しいホテルとは異なり、Yan'an Hotel Shanghaiのファーストクラスのサービスは、マニュアルに書かれた画一的な手順ではなく、お客様一人ひとりの小さなニーズを真摯に受け止める姿勢から生まれています。次に上海を訪れる際は、必ずまたこのホテルに戻って、あの温かく行き届いたおもてなしを体験したいと思います。

静安区の古い邸宅を巡る上海旅行で、私はこのホテル（Yan'an Hotel Shanghai）を特に選びました。当初は、いくつかの歴史的建造物に近いという理由だけで選んだのですが、思いがけず3日間滞在したことで、上海旅行で最も心温まるサプライズとなりました。
ホテルは静安寺地下鉄駅からわずか数百メートル。スーツケースを引きずりながら、あてもなく歩き回る必要はありませんでした。中に入ると、まず広々としたロビーに目を奪われました。温かみのある黄色の照明がレトロな木製の装飾を照らし、古き良き上海ホテルの重厚感を瞬時に感じさせます。受付係は笑顔で私を迎えてくれました。私が周辺の古いヴィラを散策するために来たことを知ると、彼女は特別に南向きの部屋を用意してくれ、さらに手書きの地図までくれました。その地図には、路地裏にひっそりと佇む何十年も続く焼き餃子屋さんまで丁寧に記されていて、おかげで無駄に迷うことなく済みました。

このホテルの一番の魅力は立地です。静安寺まで徒歩10分、南京西路のショッピング街まではのんびり20分ほど。地下鉄に急ぐ必要もありません。すぐ隣には延安高架道路がありますが、部屋の防音性は抜群。ドアを閉めれば車の騒音は全く聞こえません。喧騒の中にあって、まさに貴重な静寂です。夕方の散歩で疲れた後は、ホテルの庭を散策しました。花の香りを運ぶ夕風が、一日の疲れをあっという間に癒してくれました。
何よりも心を打たれたのは、細部にまで行き届いた昔ながらの温かさでした。ある日、古い家々を散策しようと出かけたのですが、傘を忘れてしまいました。すると、雨季特有の小雨が降り始めました。ふと思い立ってフロントに電話すると、2分もしないうちにスタッフが大きな傘を持ってきてくれ、水たまりに足を踏み入れないようにと注意までしてくれました。翌日、朝食のためにレストランに行くと、初めて来たのだと分かると、店のおばさんが親切にも温かい上海ワンタンを一杯出してくれ、「お嬢さん、旅行中はもっと温かいものを食べるといいですよ」と笑顔で言ってくれました。朝食のメニューは驚くほど豊富で、地元の鴨の煮込みやできたての焼き餃子、なめらかでクリーミーなお粥など、何でも揃っていました。この辺りでは40元という値段は、とんでもなく高いです。
3日間の滞在中、流行の観光スポットに急いで行くことはせず、プラタナスの影が赤い壁に落ちる、古き良き上海の素朴な魅力に満ちた街並みをのんびりと散策しました。 Yan'an Hotel Shanghaiは派手で流行りの内装ではありませんが、宿泊客のあらゆる細やかなニーズに完璧に応えてくれます。次回上海を訪れ、静安の古い別荘を巡る際には、必ずまたここに泊まりたいと思います。
